  • Senior Research and Policy Associate

With support from donors and partners, Sehgal Foundation designs and promotes rural development interventions that create opportunities, build resilience, and provide solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in India’s poorest communities.

    DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH AND POLICY INITIATIVES (DRPI)

    DRPI focuses on strategic and policy level studies, and attempts to understand poverty dynamics in a rural context and throws light on concepts of vulnerability, exclusion and marginalization. The theme also attempts to contribute to the larger body of knowledge through participating in thematic discourses that align with the ambit of Sehgal Foundation’s work. Organizing roundtables and conferences on key development issues is an important component of this theme that furthers the purpose of disseminating knowledge created at the grassroots.

    Sehgal Foundation has the following opening in DRPI:

    Position: Senior Research and Policy Associate

    Location: Gurugram, Haryana

    Reports to: Director, DRPI

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Conduct econometric analysis using software like SPSS, MS Excel
    2. Construct qualitative and quantitative tools related to the conceptualized studies
    3. Conduct thorough literature reviews on rural development issues and write research reports
    4. Publish reports, papers and commentaries that draw together themes across the Foundation’s work, where appropriate in relation to emerging policy development
    5. Undertake occasional research reviews to help identify gaps or scope new strands of work within areas of interest
    6. Monitor policy and research developments and identify opportunities for current and past grants to contribute

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    1. Masters degree in social sciences or related fields
    2. At least two years experience of working as data analyst
    3. Strong analytical writing skills
    4. Strong communication skills in English and Hindi

    Position: Policy Analyst

    Location: Gurugram, Haryana

    Reports to: Director, DRPI

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Conceptualize, and implement research projects to support Sehgal Foundation’s public evidence base of research on issues relevant to its objectives
    2. Write papers, reports, and research summaries for varied audiences, internal and external
    3. Represent the Foundation at seminars, conferences and other public events
    4. Develop dissemination plan for each relevant research and policy publication
    5. Engage with key stakeholders in government, the private sector, voluntary sector, academia and other research institutions
    6. Monitor and evaluate policy developments, decisions and changes in view of Sehgal Foundation’s work and the corresponding impact on development issues

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    1. Masters degree public policy or related field preferred.
    2. Minimum five years professional experience. At least one year experience of working with rural or urban communities
    3. Excellent desk analytical research skills, and experience in qualitative and quantitative research techniques
    4. Proven written and presentation skills in a range of formats (briefings, reports, summaries etc.)
    5. Experience in carrying out analysis of statistical information, panel surveys and other data

    Location: Samastipur, Bihar

    Reports to: Director, DRPI

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Collect qualitative data through focus group discussions, key informant interviews, case studies and observations in rural contexts relevant to Sehgal Foundation's work
    2. Edit the raw dataset obtained from the field before the data entry process. Coordinate correction work and documentation of errors
    3. Conduct training sessions on qualitative and quantitative tools with the research field team
    4. Assist in formulation of tools

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    1. Masters degree in Social Sciences or related fields
    2. At least one year experience of working with rural or urban communities
    3. Strong communication skills in Hindi. Working knowledge of English preferred.
