Discouraged from seeking education or employment, women were entirely dependent upon their husbands or other male family members. Water projects were designed to harvest, store, replenish, restore, dispose of, and conserve water; promote sustainability of ground and surface water resources; and drinking water. Interventions like check dams, soak wells, soak pits, rainwater harvesting and community tanks were undertaken by S M Sehgal Foundation in collaboration with community members.
