The foundation building is self-sustaining and requires no administrative costs to maintain. Though the organization's title remained S M Sehgal Foundation from the beginning, part of the original vision was to also serve as an Institute for Rural Research and Development. This visit was actualized as SMSF became a go-to center in academic circles for grassroots-level brainstorming and interventions. In addition to being the center of SMSF operations in India, the campus hosts collaborative conferences, events, and training programs, and conducts informational outreach with projects and presentations to meet and address the most pressing needs of rural communities.
