Sehgal Foundation invites applications for the position of Principal Lead/Scientist, Adaptive Technology – Agriculture
Location: Gurugram, Haryana
Reporting: Chief Technology Officer
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
– Education: PhD/MSc in agriculture with specialization in soil science/agronomy/digital agriculture
– Minimum 10-12 years of experience in the field of using AI / IT/ ICT/ digital applications/innovations in agriculture
– Demonstrated interest in technology led innovation in agriculture
Job Description:
Adaptive Technology – agriculture (ATA) identifies new technology and farming practices to promote sustainable agricultural practices for small and marginal farmers in India. The overall objective of the program is to improve livelihoods of farmers, including women producers. ATA focuses on technologies and improved agricultural practices that increase crop yields, conserve water, improve input use efficiency and build resilience among small and marginal farmers. The team works with small-holders in rain-fed and irrigated areas to facilitate adoption of advanced agricultural practices that include soil health management, crop production management, small farm mechanization, water-efficient irrigation techniques, horticultural development, livestock management, and the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
● Identify suitable digital agriculture technologies for small and marginal farmers to further enhance the adoption and scaling up of
– Water use efficiency in agriculture
– e-Extension and farmers’ advisory services
– Market Connectivity/ market linkages
– Precision Farming
– Crop production
– Digital Market Place (Equipment Leasing)
– Improve climate resilience technology for small and marginal farmers
– Other digital applications in agriculture
● Identify, validate and demonstrate technologies at the field level.
● Conduct pilot demonstrations of successful models / technologies at project locations.
● Strengthen linkages with research and extension institutes to scale up successful models/ technologies
● Building technical capacity of the projects team for scaling up successful models.
● Establish linkages with other NGO’s / corporate / research and extension institute for scaling of successful technologies and models.
● Write research paper / articles / working paper / publications to internal and external research journals.
● Undertake external validation of tested technologies to ensure proof of concept and sustained impact.
● Represent successful technologies / practices/ models at workshops/ conferences.
