S M Sehgal Foundation has been working since 1999 to improve the quality of life of the rural communities in India. As a rural development NGO, established as a public, charitable trust, S M Sehgal Foundation has a skilled and dedicated team that creates sustainable programs to address rural India’s most pressing needs: Sehgal Foundation has five main program areas: Water Management, Agriculture Development, Local Participation and Sustainability, Transform Lives one school at a time, and Outreach for Development.
RURAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (RRD)
RRD focuses on strategic and development focused studies, in the attempt to understand poverty dynamics in a rural context while shedding light on concepts of vulnerability, exclusion and marginalization. The function also attempts to contribute to the larger body of knowledge through participating in thematic discourses that align with the focus of Sehgal Foundation’s work. Organizing roundtables and conferences on key development issues is an important component of this theme that furthers the purpose of disseminating knowledge created at the grassroots.
S M Sehgal Foundation invites applications for the following position in RRD:
Position: Senior Research Associate
Location: Gurugram, Haryana
Reports to: Principal Scientist
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct thorough literature reviews on rural development issues and write research reports
2. Conceptualize studies in line with the research focus of the foundation
3. Conduct advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis making use of available data
4. Publish research papers, articles and commentaries that draw together themes across the Foundation’s work
5. Undertake occasional research reviews to help identify gaps or scope new strands of work within areas of interest
6. Monitor research developments and identify opportunities for current and past grants to contribute
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Masters degree in Social Sciences, Economics or related field.
2. Minimum five years of professional experience. At least two years’ experience of working with rural communities
3. Previous experience of independently conceptualizing research studies on issues around agriculture, water, education along with conducting independent evaluations and monitoring surveys.
4. Excellent desk analytical research skills, and experience in qualitative and quantitative research techniques
5. Proven written and presentation skills in a range of formats (briefings, reports, summaries etc.)
6. Strong communication skills in Hindi and English
