At the EAW Aqua Exhibition and Conference, Salahuddin Saiphy, principal lead, Water Management, S M Sehgal Foundation, spoke about the foundation’s water conservation initiatives and its role in providing technical support to communities and partners.

Highlighting the need for stronger participation from different stakeholders, he talked about making water management sustainable, with rainwater harvesting being one of the most practical solutions to address growing water scarcity. He also pointed to the growing dependence on borewell water throughout the year. Since rainwater is available only for a limited period, groundwater recharge technologies are essential to replenish depleted aquifers, maintain the water balance, and secure water availability for future generations.
Mr Saiphy also moderated a session on “Innovation in Rainwater Harvesting: Technology, Design and Future Solutions”, titled “Turning Rain into Resilience: Building South Asia’s Rainwater Future,” during SARNET’s conference at Bharat Mandapam.
The panel brought together innovators and practitioners, including Mr Vijayraj Shisodya, co-founder and director, Farmland Rainwater Harvesting Systems; Mr Akash Varia, general manager, marketing, NeeRain Pvt Ltd; Mr J. Chandrasekeran, founder director, Watsan Envirotech Pvt Ltd; Mr Nilesh Mankar, Groundwater Survey and Development Agency, Government of Maharashtra; and Ms Swati Bhatia, deputy programme manager, Water Programme, Centre for Science and Environment.
The panellists shared grassroots experiences and discussed innovative technologies and designs that can make rainwater harvesting systems more durable and impactful. The use of AI, IoT, GIS, and online sensors was also recommended to enable better monitoring and assessment of the impact of RWH systems.

The exhibition offered an opportunity to share our work, exchange perspectives and learn from organisations working on similar water and rural development priorities.
