My name is Mukul, and I study in Class 6 at Government Senior Secondary School, Bhajeda. I have two sisters who also study at the same school. My father works as a laborer, and my mother is a homemaker.
Before the digital library was introduced at our school, I had never used a computer. When I learned that computer classes were starting, I was excited about the opportunity to learn. On the first day, however, my name was not on the list, and I was considered too young to attend. But I was determined to learn, so I approached the school principal several times and requested permission to join the classes. After discussing the matter with the trainer assigned from the S M Sehgal Foundation team, the principal allowed me to attend.
At the digital library, I learned basic computer skills, including using Paint and Microsoft Word, creating presentations in PowerPoint, and working with Microsoft Excel. I also participated in the Life Skills Awareness sessions, which helped me learn new skills beyond computer use.
As I gained confidence, I began exploring YouTube to learn how to make science models. By following online tutorials, I created a working fire sensor model. The school principal appreciated my work, which encouraged me to take on more projects. On World Environment Day, June 5, I created a water harvesting model. I continued exploring new ideas and developing other projects using what I learned online.
Another important change for me was becoming more confident in English. Earlier, I found it difficult to read, write, and speak in English. Whenever a teacher asked me a question in English, I often hesitated to answer, because I was afraid of making mistakes. Over time, my experience at the digital library helped me overcome some of this hesitation. I gradually became more comfortable with reading and writing in English and expressing myself.
My science projects inspired students from other classes to learn computer skills and create models of their own. They approached the principal with similar requests. Since all students could not attend the classes at the same time, the principal arranged separate periods for different classes. Students take turns using the digital library, where they learn computer skills and receive help from teachers with online learning.
The principal noticed that students are increasingly interested in visiting the digital library. Our teachers have observed this interest and continue to support us in developing our digital skills. The library gives us the opportunity to explore new subjects, find information online, and work on projects independently.
The digital library has made a difference in the way I learn. I have gained computer skills, become more confident in English, and discovered an interest in creating science models. This has taught me that I can learn new things by exploring information and putting my ideas into practice. I look forward to using these skills to learn further and develop new projects in the future.
